GOING BACK TO THE PAST..
Manuel Roxas (1892-1948) was the last president of the Commonwealth and the first president of the Republic of the Philippines. His administration demonstrated decisively that political sovereignty without economic independence encourages reaction, perpetuation of social injustices, and exploitation.

Manuel Roxas was born in Capiz, Capiz Province, on Jan. 1, 1892. In 1914 he graduated from the College of Law of the University of the Philippines. In 1916 he became provincial governor. In 1922 he was elected to Congress, becoming Speaker of the Philippine Assembly.

The Captivating Province of Capiz

CAPTIVATING CAPIZ

Captivating Capiz is the Philippines' Seafood Capital. This is because of its abundant fishing grounds. Tons of seafoods is being caught everyday for exporting purposes.

Capiz is named after a translucent shell called KAPIS. This shell has been used for making lampshades and other decorative objects. In many ancestral houses, it is used for window panels.

Captivating Capiz is located in Western Visayas and in the northeastern part of the Panay island. Roxas City is the only city in the province and considered its capital. Capiz is also known for being the home aswangs (which is only a myth and is not true nowadays). The people living in Capiz are called CapizeƱos.

It is also the birthplace of the former president Manuel A. Roxas and of the Senator Mar Roxas.

Captivating Capiz comprises 2 districts with 16 municipalities, 1 city and 473 barangays. The 16 municipalities in the province are Cuartero, Dao, Dumalag, Dumarao, Ivisan, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao, Panay, Panit-an, Pilar, Pontevedra, President Roxas, Sapian Sigma and Tapaz.
